Women's Missionary Union (WMU)

The WMU of Fork Union Baptist Church shares the same objective as the national and state chapters of the WMU: “Our unshakable pursuit is to know God more, show His love unconditionally, and make disciples who make disciples.”

The heart of the WMU is missions, and the watchword of the Fork Union WMU chapter comes from Paul, as cited in 1 Corinthians 15:58 (CEV): “My dear friends, stand firm and don’t be shaken. Always keep busy working for the Lord. You know that everything you do for him is worthwhile.”

The ladies of the Fork Union Baptist Church WMU meet on the third Friday of each month, at the
church, at 1:30 PM. All ladies are invited!

Meetings include a Bible-based devotional, prayer for the work of the committee and for those in need, fellowship, friendship, and a program based on missions. Sometimes the WMU works on service projects: such as organizing Bingo prizes for the local nursing home, packing shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse, or sorting personal care products to be taken to a women’s correctional center. At other times, the program includes an opportunity to enjoy a dialog with missionaries who are serving in the local or global communities, or perhaps a discussion of mission projects that might be adopted by the WMU and the church.

Areas of focus and intent include:

  • praying for the success of mission projects and missionaries

  • witnessing and engaging in mission-based actions

  • learning more about missions

  • supporting weeks of prayer and offering for special missions, including local, state, national, and international missions

  • supporting the church congregation in adopting a mission-based lifestyle

  • participating in the overall work of the church, as well as the specific mission-based activities of theWMU

All women with a passion for missions, with an interest in learning how to support mission activities are welcome!  For more information, please email Cathy Hitchcock at  churchoffice@forkunionbaptist.org.
